English › Welcome

The village is on an altitude of 915 m a.s.l. and is therefore the highest market village in Germany. The market rights were granted to Wertach in the year 1423 and are still being held twice a year on the 1st May for the Mayday celebrations (raising the maypole) and on the 18th September for the “Viehscheid” (cattle drive), when the cattle returns from the mountain pastures.

Various points of interest are the parish church "St. Ulrich", the chapel "St. Sebastian" (“Kleine Wies”), the mountain cheese dairy, the local history museum and the 400 year old hammer mill, which dates back to the 17th century (approx. 1610 - 1620).

Leisure activities in the summer:
- open air swimming pool “Starzlachauenbad”
- lake “Grüntensee” for water sports and fishing
