The village is on an altitude of 915 m and is therefore the highest market town in Germany. The market rights were granted to Wertach in the year 1423 and markets are still being held twice a year on the 1st May for the Mayday celebrations and on the 18th September for the “Viehscheid”, when the cattle returns from the mountains back down to the valley.
Various points of interest around Wertach are the Parish Church, St. Sebastians Chapel (“Kleine Wies”), the local museum, Black Smiths, which is approx. 400 years old and the Mountain Cheese Dairy.
Leisure activities include in the summer the open air swimming pool “Starzlachauenbad”, lake “Grüntensee” for water sports and fishing and in the Winter 3 Ski lifts, 20 km cross country skiing, 20 km cleared walking routes and various sledging runs are also available.
