Points of interest in the region
Come and visit Wertach in the beautiful region of the "Allgäu" in the Bavarian alps and the neighbouring Tirol/ Austria.
Castle Neuschwanstein: is only 32 km from Wertach and easily reachable by car. Timetables for public transport like bus etc. are available free of charge in the Tourist-Info Wertach. Close to the castle is the historic town of Füssen, which is also worth a visit along with lake “Forggensee”, where in summer from approx. middle of June through to the beginning of October passenger ships operate. From the ships magnificent panorama views can be enjoyed across the lake to the mountains and King Ludwig’s famous castle “Neuschwanstein”.
Oberstdorf: is approx. 40 km away and a well-known winter sport resort for ski-jumping, alpine and cross country skiing. Also worth a visit is the “Breitachklamm”, a gorge close to Oberstdorf, with a spectacular landscape in summer and winter.
Kempten: is about 30 km from Wertach. It is the biggest town in the region and one of the oldest towns in Germany dating as far back as the Romans over 2000 years ago. Various museums and the Archaeological Park Cambodunum (APC) make history vivid. Kempten is well worth a visit not just for shopping on a rainy day.
Tannheimer Tal/ Austria: is a valley just over the border about 15 km from Wertach on an altitude of approx. 1.100 m and about 20 km long. It is known as one of the most beautiful valleys in Austria.
