WELCOME TO WERTACH IN THE BAVARIAN ALPS

Wertach is a well known summer holiday and wintersport resort in the Bavarian Alps recommended by the ADAC (General German Automobile Club) for family holidays. The village itself is at an altitude of 915 m and is therefore the highest market town in Germany. The recognised healthy climate resort in the Oberallgaeu is home to approx. 3.000 inhabitants with about 2.000 guest beds and 2 campsites.

From the various mountains around the village for example "Reuterwanne" (1.541m), Wertacher Hoernle (1.695 m with Alprose Blossom at the end of June/ beg of July) and "Gruenten" (1.738 m) you can see the beautiful walking areas, two thirds of which is a nature conservation area.

Various sights are the Parish Church, St. Sebastians Chapel ("Kleine Wies"), the local Museum, the Black Smiths (almost 400 years old) and the local "Mountain Cheese Dairy".

In the summer there is the open air pool "Starzlachauenbad" and lake "Gruentensee" (only 2,5 km outside Wertach) with the possibility of water sports and fishing. Further leisure activities are mountain walking and cycling around Wertach and the surrounding areas.

In winter there are 3 skilifts at the local "Buron Lift", 20 km loipes for cross country skiing, 20 km prepared walking routes for walkes through the scenic "Winter Wonderland" and  sledging on natural toboggan runs is also available.

Approx. 500 annual events take place each year such as "Schalenggenrennen" (Big Sledges), Carnival Processions, "Viehscheid" (driving the cattle back down to the valley in autumn after having spent all summer up in the mountains), Cheese- and Yodel Seminares are just a few examples of many events around the year.
